AI Safety

What Is AI Safety?

AI safety is the field focused on ensuring that increasingly capable AI systems remain reliable, controllable and aligned with human intentions — even as they begin to outperform people at specific tasks.

As artificial intelligence moves from narrow tools to general-purpose systems that influence consequential decisions, the question is no longer only whether a model can do something, but whether it should — under whose oversight, and with what safeguards in place.

Why it matters now

The capability of frontier models is growing faster than our ability to fully understand and steer them. Closing that gap — through interpretability, robust evaluation and meaningful human oversight — is the core challenge of AI safety, and the reason it has moved from a niche research topic to a question of public interest.

How LASTHUMAN approaches it

We treat AI safety as inseparable from human dignity and agency: technology should strengthen human judgment, not quietly replace it. Our work focuses on the conditions under which advanced systems stay accountable to the people they affect.
